Thank you to all who attended last night's meeting of the group on the topic of perception and how we can reduce stress by changing our perception of events or information. If you were unable to join us please find two files attached. One is the handout from the session that includes two perception activities. I invite you to try the two activities before opening the second file entitled "Perception Solutions to MBRS Session #3"

Hello!

It was so lovely to meet/see everyone that could attend the group last night!

I will be sending handouts each week that will have links to the resources that I talk about in the meeting. Please see the pdf from last night's group with links to Copper Beech Institute in West Hartford and two articles about MBSR.

I will also email you if we have inclement weather on the night of our meetings. If we do, we will meet in Zoom only and I will send the link.

Two things:

  • Please try to incorporate the mindfulness practice of taking 5 mindful breaths each morning before getting out of bed each day this week.
  • Please respond to this email and let me know how you found this group. (from church, Manchester Patch, Facebook, the Journal Inquirer, Manchester Community Calendar, Manchester e-newsletter, from a friend, other)

Again, it was lovely to see you all and I look forward to getting to know you all better and building this community.

Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

My best,
Vickie

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction
⇑ Top

You are invited to join us in February and March for a weekly meeting for an introduction to Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) based on the teachings of Jon Kabat-Zinn.

MBSR is a blend of meditation, body awareness, and mindful movement: learning through practice and study how our bodies handle (and can resolve) stress neurologically.

MBSR can help us:

  • Cope with stress, pain, and the challenges of everyday life
  • Deal with disturbing events with grace and composure
  • Be fully present and alive in this moment

“Mindfulness is about being fully awake in our lives. It is about perceiving the exquisite vividness of each moment. We also gain immediate access to our own powerful inner resources for insight, transformation, and healing.”

Jon Kabat-Zinn

Each week we will discuss an aspect of MBSR and participate in a short, guided meditation.

The group will meet at North United Methodist Church, 300 Parker St, Manchester on Wednesdays February 5th - March 26th 6:15pm-6:45pm.

It is not necessary to attend all eight sessions. Please feel free to attend as you are able.
